Our Volunteers

“For some children, their childhood experiences are not times of family picnics and trips to grandma's. Instead their memories will be times of family turmoil, confusion, adults asking them questions, and moving to unfamiliar places. This is where a CASA volunteer is able to come in and support the children when they need someone to care.  Every child who is involved in the court system needs an advocate, and that is why I am a CASA volunteer.”

-Joan Kniss, CASA Volunteer

CASA VOLUNTEER TRAINING CLASS WILL TAKE PLACE IN JUNE 2010!

If you would like to join our June 2010 class, please call (303) 655.3927 or email Lisandra Gonzales.

All volunteers must complete an initial training session that is between 30 and 35 hours. CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties hosts training three times a year, normally in February, June and October.

Training covers a variety of topics detailing the role of a volunteer and situations that volunteers may encounter. Training includes:

  • Courtroom procedure
  • Report Writing
  • Advocacy techniques
  • Investigation techniques
  • Cultural Competency

Additionally, outside trainers with expertise in certain areas present on topics, including:

  • Methamphetamine Use
  • Domestic Violence
  • Attachment and Brain Development in Children
  • Educational Advocacy
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Plus much more!

If you are interested in learning more about our upcoming training class, please contact Lisandra Gonzales, (303) 655.3927.

After an individual becomes a CASA Volunteer, they are required by the Colorado Children’s Code to complete 12 hours of in-service training related to their CASA work every year. CASA of Adams and Broomfield Counties either hosts or offers access to over 350 hours of in-service training per year!
